Wen Wangge was a descendant of Wen Tonghe, a renowned government official and royal tutor in the late Qing Dynasty. He studied electric engineering in the United States in 1938, but he was more interested in history of Chinese fine arts. In 1941 he began to learn educational films, and most of his productions were about Chinese fine arts. A well trained photographer, he taken a large number of photos of Chinese antiques scattered around the world from the 1940s to the 1980s. This book is based on the many photos that he took.



The book contains 488 Chinese cultural relics, including calligraphy and paintings, paintings murals of Dunhuang Grottoes, bronze ware, ceramics, jade, golden and sliver ware, Buddhist statues, and sculptures discovered in ancient tombs. The content is arranged in three volume by material and

theme, and the items are listed in the order of time. For example, bronze ware includes cooking vessels, drinking vessels and others, which are listed by time. Paintings murals of Dunhuang Grottoes are grouped if they are of the same theme. The book provides name, time, author, material, size and current collector of the items and their stories of sales, supplemented by engaging photos and words.
