The Imperial Bronze Objects and Scholar’s Studio Works of Art From Muxinzhai

Exhibition Time: October 26 - November 19, 2017

Visitors can explore the aesthetic taste and cultural values of the imperial bronze ware during the Qianlong period in “The Imperial Bronze Objects and Scholar’s Studio Works of Art From Muxinzhai”. Bronze objects, a cardinal category amongst the handicrafts of the Ming and Qing dynasties, have increasingly garnered the fervent attention of the populace. The exemplary curatorial effort to systematically display, for the first time, the quintessential imperial censers of the two dynasties alongside the bronzes of the Qianlong court stands without precedent. In light of this, the exhibition is divided into three thematic sections: Bronzeware of the Qianlong Court, the original Xuande censers, and the study, all curated with the hope of bolstering in-depth scholarly research into the artistry of the Ming and Qing imperial courts.

This exhibition is the culmination of years of meticulous curation by the Muxinzhai, encompassing seminal auction pieces from the studio’s 2013 “Eternal Spring-Scholar’s Studio Objects from Muxinzhai” and 2015 “Qing Lu Set from Muxinzhai” collections at China Guardian. It is thanks to the support of numerous collectors that these treasures are brought to light in this exhibition. Complementing the show of exhibits, a concurrent academic lecture titled “The Inheritance and Spread of Bronzeware Culture”, shared by Ding Meng, a researcher at the Palace Museum, furnishes the exposition with a multi-faceted interpretive dimension.
