Exhibition Introduction

The exhibition focuses on the theme of white fabrics to create an atmosphere of spiritual lightness of being. The exhibition has five units that work in tandem to create a cohesive space: Interior space design, Kengo Kuma’s notable architectural models and sketches, digital multimedia, materials, experimental music, and documentary narrative.

The entirety of the exhibition’s narrative and descriptions are created by the artist himself. The calligraphy and the “multimedia exhibition unit, created by the Kadokawa Musahino Museum and architecture materials” through their own interpretation of Kengo Kuma’s works. The “Meditation Patios” were created specifically for this exhibition and uses the theme of wood and bamboo. There are seven different musical pieces that were created by Kengo Kuma in collaboration with the Tokyo University of Arts as a way for the artist to accompany the audience as they move through the different units and interpretations.

The exhibition guides the audience from the macro to the micro nuances of Kengo Kuma’s architectural aesthetics, to express the artist’s own new understanding and perspective of architecture through the re-awakening of the audience’s five senses of vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste, and inspire the audience to start a dialog with the architecture around themselves.
